Designer Sneakers & Shoes
Farfetch’s single biggest advantage. Shoe stock spread across boutiques worldwide means sizes and colorways that sold out at US stores often still exist somewhere on the network.
A US buyer’s guide to Farfetch: how the boutique marketplace works, what shipping, duties and returns really cost an American order, and which six sections are worth your money.
Farfetch is legit. It is a large, established luxury marketplace, owned since January 2024 by Coupang, the Seattle-headquartered e-commerce group, and it ships designer fashion to the US every day. The harder question is whether it is the right place for your particular purchase, because the way Farfetch works is different from a department store, and most of the bad experiences people describe trace back to that difference.
Farfetch has no buying department. Its own contact page says it doesn’t buy stock from brands; instead, hundreds of brands and partner boutiques list their inventory and ship your order themselves. That gives you an enormous selection and real odds of finding a sold-out size. It also means prices change by size and seller, parcels can arrive separately, and disputes go through a middleman. Below are six ways to shop it well.

These three sections are where Farfetch’s boutique network gives US shoppers something they can’t easily get elsewhere.
Farfetch’s single biggest advantage. Shoe stock spread across boutiques worldwide means sizes and colorways that sold out at US stores often still exist somewhere on the network.
A huge range of new designer bags from brand stores and boutiques, packed with branded boxes and dust bags where the designer provides them. Best for buyers who already know exactly which bag they want.
Seasonal markdowns across hundreds of brands, plus a private members’ sale for Access customers. Real savings are possible, but this is where Final Sale labels and excluded brands catch people out.
Every option side by side, with the one thing that actually distinguishes it.

Three things a single US retailer’s website usually can’t match.
Because stock comes from many brands and independent stores across Europe, Asia and the US, one search covers inventory no single retailer holds. That’s why reviewers keep describing sold-out styles turning up in their size, and why Farfetch is often the first stop for a piece released in limited quantities.
The United States is on Farfetch’s list of destinations where import duties are included in the order price, with domestic sales tax shown separately during checkout. For a bag shipped from Italy, that removes the classic cross-border trap of a courier holding your parcel until you pay a bill you didn’t expect.
Farfetch states that every item is guaranteed authentic, and returns are free within 30 days of delivery via a booked pickup or a drop-off point, provided you return from the US. You still need to meet the conditions, but the framework is in writing rather than left to each boutique.
How to buy on Farfetch without falling into the traps that fill its one-star reviews.
Farfetch’s pricing page says the same item can cost different amounts depending on the seller, its location and your destination, and that adding it to your bag doesn’t hold the price. The listing headline shows the lowest price across all sizes, so select your size before you fall for the number. Then check where that size ships from: an item from Europe brings customs paperwork, while one already in the US usually doesn’t.
Most items follow the 30-day returns policy, but anything labeled Final Sale can’t be returned unless it arrives damaged or faulty, and made-to-order pieces are also excluded. Beauty products must come back unopened with seals intact. Several recent reviews come from buyers who only noticed a shoe was non-returnable after it didn’t fit, so treat that label as a final decision.
The boutique, not Farfetch, inspects your return, and buyers on review sites describe returns being refused over small marks. Photograph the item as it arrives, keep the Farfetch security tag in its original position, try shoes on a carpet so the soles stay clean, and leave dust bags and boxes intact. If something is faulty or wrong, contact customer service before you return anything.
Farfetch’s delivery page lists express delivery to most of Europe and the US within two to four days, plus free standard delivery for US orders above a spend threshold, which was $400 when we checked; confirm it at checkout, as thresholds change. Brands and boutiques get two business days to process an order, and couriers include DHL, UPS and FedEx. Items bought from different sellers can arrive in separate boxes on different days, which is behind many of the half-an-order complaints.
Duties for US orders are included in the price, and domestic sales tax appears as a separate line at checkout. One quirk worth knowing: when an item ships from an overseas boutique, US Customs may ask for your IRS, EIN or SSN number before releasing it. Farfetch says you usually get a week to supply it before the parcel is sent back for a refund. You can also waive the signature requirement at checkout, but doing so releases Farfetch from liability if the box goes missing.
Farfetch lists a US phone line that runs almost around the clock on New York time, plus an email address it aims to answer within 24 hours, more slowly during sales and holidays. On Trustpilot the company was rated 4.2 out of 5 when we checked, with recent praise centered on fast international delivery. On SmartCustomer (formerly Sitejabber) the picture is far worse, at 2.0 out of 5 across more than 1,800 reviews.
The complaints repeat. Parcels delayed or split, with part of an order stuck abroad; FedEx deliveries buyers found hard to reroute; returns rejected by the boutique for marks the buyer says weren’t theirs; slow refunds, including store credit; and lost-parcel investigations that ask the customer for evidence. Keep photos, tracking numbers and every email, and escalate in writing if the answer is a template.
Ranked by how well each one delivers on what it promises; not by price.

The size you gave up on is often still sitting in a boutique in Milan or Paris, and Farfetch is how you reach it.
Footwear shows the marketplace at its best. Each brand and partner boutique lists its own inventory, so when one store sells out of a size, another may still have it, and Farfetch’s product page lets you sign up for a back-in-stock alert by size. Recent Trustpilot reviews from US buyers describe exactly this: a collaboration sneaker sold out everywhere turning up in the right color, and a pair shipped from Paris that reached Florida the next day. Duties are included for US delivery, so a pair from Europe doesn’t trigger a separate customs bill.
The catch is pricing. The listing price is the lowest across all sizes, and one Trustpilot reviewer complained that the shoe looked like a bargain until they picked their size and the price rose sharply; Farfetch’s reply confirmed that boutiques set their own prices. Returns are strict for shoes too: the policy asks you not to mark the soles or damage the shoe box, and the box has to go back inside protective packaging. Try new pairs indoors on carpet, and check the size convention on the listing, since one SmartCustomer reviewer said a listing wasn’t clear about men’s versus women’s sizing.

A bag from Farfetch is an easy buy when you’re sure of it, and an expensive lesson when you’re not.
Handbags are where many US shoppers first try Farfetch, and for good reason. The range spans established houses and newer labels, often from European boutiques that stock pieces US stores don’t carry. Farfetch’s FAQ says every item is guaranteed authentic and that branded boxes, dust bags or cases supplied by the designer travel with your order. Duties are included at checkout, and US buyers can split the cost with Klarna or Afterpay; Farfetch caps Klarna at $1,500 per US order. If you’re undecided between two bags, though, decide before checkout rather than planning to return one.
The risk sits in the return. The policy requires accessories to go back with original branded packaging, placed inside a protective box, and the selling boutique inspects them. On SmartCustomer, a buyer said a high-value bag was rejected and sent back over two barely visible marks they believe were already there. Another reported a serial number that didn’t match the product and an investigation that consisted of asking the seller. Photograph every angle and the interior on arrival, and contact customer service the same day if anything looks wrong. Don’t send a faulty bag back through the standard return flow before you’ve reported it.

The sale section rewards shoppers who read the small print, and punishes the ones who don’t.
Farfetch runs a sale section across womenswear, menswear and kidswear, and Access members unlock entry to a private members’ sale after their first order. Because each boutique discounts its own stock, the reductions vary by seller, and the marketplace’s size lets you compare the same item from several sources. The Access dashboard also shows promotional rewards, including a birthday-month discount, and Farfetch says some codes apply automatically at checkout. The best time to buy is early in a sale, when the full size range is still spread across many sellers.
Three rules matter. First, items marked Final Sale can’t be returned unless they arrive faulty; a recent Trustpilot reviewer was stuck with shoes that didn’t fit. Second, promotions apply only to selected brands and items, and Farfetch says it can’t publish a list of exclusions. Third, a size may not be discounted if the boutique holding it isn’t taking part, even when the item appears in the promotion. Promotions can’t be stacked, and customer service won’t reactivate an expired code. If fit is uncertain, a full-price item with a 30-day return can be the cheaper choice in the end.

Second Life turns a bag gathering dust into Farfetch credit, but only Farfetch credit, so it suits regular shoppers best.
Farfetch sells pre-owned items in four published grades: Unworn with tags, Unworn, Excellent, and Good, the last allowing fading, patina or scratches. Its returns page says pre-owned pieces are checked before sale. The other half is Second Life, which is available in the US: upload photos of a bag from an approved list of luxury brands, get a quote within three working days, book a free pickup, and receive credit within ten working days once the bag passes verification. Access members get an extra 5 to 15 percent on top, depending on tier.
The trade-offs are real. Second Life pays in Farfetch credit, not cash, so it only makes sense if you’ll spend that credit on Farfetch, and it accepts bags only. On the buying side, condition is partly subjective; a recent Trustpilot reviewer bought a pre-owned bag knowing about an interior stain, then found extra wear on the straps and exterior that the photos didn’t show. Read the grade, zoom into every photo, and ask questions before you pay. Pre-owned items also need to go back in exactly the condition they arrived, so inspect them carefully before wearing.

Kidswear is where Farfetch’s range is most fun and where the cost per wear is hardest to defend.
Kidswear sits alongside womenswear and menswear as one of Farfetch’s three departments, and the brand list includes the children’s lines of many labels adults already shop, from Burberry Kids to Fendi Kids, with a sale section of its own. As with everything on the site, stock comes from multiple boutiques, so you can order a whole outfit through a single checkout even when the pieces come from different sellers in different countries. Duties are included for US delivery, which keeps gift budgets predictable. Kidswear also qualifies for the same free returns as adult clothing, provided tags and packaging stay intact.
Children grow fast, and designer pricing is hard to justify for everyday basics, so this works best for occasion wear and gifts. Mixed-seller orders arrive in separate packages, and returns from different boutiques must be boxed separately with the correct label on each. Sizing conventions can differ between labels, especially between European and US brands, so check the size guide on each listing. If you’re buying for a specific date, allow extra time, since part of an order can be held up while the rest arrives. For birthdays and holidays, order well ahead of the date.

Add beauty to an order you’re already placing; don’t make it the reason you shop Farfetch.
Farfetch sells beauty alongside fashion, so you can add a fragrance or skincare product to a clothing order without opening another account. Beauty items can count toward your Access spend like any other purchase, and the same payment options apply, including Afterpay and Klarna for US buyers. For gift shopping in particular, being able to combine a designer accessory and a scent in one checkout is a genuine convenience. Duties are included on US orders, so an imported product doesn’t come with an extra charge at the door, and order tracking sits in the same Orders & Returns page as the rest of your purchases.
It’s the least compelling section for US buyers, though. Farfetch’s returns policy requires beauty and cosmetic products to come back unopened and unused with the packaging seals intact, so you can’t test a scent and return it. Beauty items can arrive in separate boxes, and if you return several, each must be repackaged the way it arrived with its own label. Many of the same products are available from domestic beauty retailers with in-store testers, so check before paying for something you’ve never tried. Buy here only when you already know the product.

We assess products on construction and claims we can verify – not on which brand pays most.
We test marketing claims against the actual published construction and specification, rather than taking a product name at face value.
Every product in a guide is judged against its siblings, so the ranking reflects what you actually choose between.
Independent certification, materials and build quality all feed into the score, not just headline features.
A score means nothing without context, so every pick states who it suits – and who should skip it.
We weigh what's included and what isn't, because delivery, fees and accessories change the real price.
Brands cannot buy a position. Affiliate commissions fund the site but never determine the order or the wording.
Yes. Farfetch is an established marketplace that has operated since 2007, and Coupang completed its acquisition of the company in January 2024. Farfetch states that every item it sells is guaranteed authentic, it accepts mainstream US payment methods including major cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Klarna and Afterpay, and it publishes its returns, shipping and duties policies in full.
Being legit isn’t the same as being frictionless. Because you’re usually buying from a partner boutique through Farfetch, delivery, returns inspection and pricing all depend partly on that seller. Most problems in reviews involve delays, refused returns or slow refunds rather than fake goods, though a small number of buyers do report authenticity disputes.
Import duties are included in the price for US orders, so you shouldn’t receive a separate bill from the courier. Domestic sales tax is calculated for your address and shown separately during checkout. If you return an item, Farfetch’s terms say duties and taxes are refunded when they were included in the original price.
Overseas shipments can still need a customs step: US Customs may ask for an IRS, EIN or SSN number before delivery. Watch your email after ordering so a request for that information doesn’t send your parcel back.
You have 30 days from the day your order lands to send it back, and Farfetch offers a free pickup or free drop-off for returns made from the country you ordered to. Items must be unworn and unused, with tags, branded boxes and dust bags, and any Farfetch security tag still in place. Final Sale and made-to-order items can’t be returned unless faulty, and beauty must be unopened.
Once the boutique receives your return it can take up to six calendar days to process, and the refund can take up to 14 more days to appear, depending on your card. Delivery charges aren’t refunded. You can choose a refund to your Farfetch account instead; that credit expires five years after the return is accepted.
Access is automatic once you create an account and place an order. It has five tiers, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Private Client, set by how much you spend in a membership year, with your starting tier based on your first order. Rewards include a welcome promotion, a birthday-month discount and entry to a private members’ sale after your first order.
Free shipping starts at Silver, and higher tiers add priority phone support and a dedicated personal stylist. Upgrades take effect 30 days after the qualifying purchase, and returning items can affect them. Tier spend thresholds are shown on the Access page rather than fixed here, so check them in your own currency.
Yes, if you want a piece that’s hard to find, buy it from a seller whose location you’ve checked, and handle it carefully until you’re sure. US duties are already included, and the boutique network is unmatched. Avoid Final Sale gambles, keep every box and tag, and screenshot everything until the return window closes.
